What is a Brigade?A brigade is a week-long trip during which 15-30 Texas A&M students travel to a community in Panama to work with indigenous peoples to teach basic business skills and to advise micro-entrepreneurs within the community how to improve their business practices. No Spanish is required and native translators will accompany the group. We will stay in facilities separate from the community and will drive there each day to work with the people there. How Much Does the Brigade Cost?Last Brigade's expenditure: The cost of the brigade depends largely on the costs of flights and from year to year. Total expenses generally include a $1,200 in country-fee to Global Brigades, which covers housing, food, and transportation. Generally, brigades cost around $2,500 including the flights, but with fundraisers and scholarships, these costs can be greatly diminished. If you are a Mays student and have a minimum GPA of a 3.0, the Center for International Business Studies will provide a stipend covering the full cost of the flight, therefore lowering the cost to simply the in-country fee. These costs are estimates based on past brigades but the final cost is less depending on the scholarships that Mays provides. This is by far the cheapest study abroad program at Mays Business School! |
Why Panama?Panama has the highest economic disparity amongst its citizens in all of Central America. Much of the economic wealth is concentrated in Panama City and does not matriculate to the countryside, but equipped with basic business knowledge, we can help better the lives of those living in rural communities.
